Robert Hurt’s Thoughts On Gun Control

The fight for expanded gun control measures continues to heat up. The General Assembly last week blocked most new proposals to restrict where Virginians may carry guns. And more legislation is back before a Virginia Senate committee today. A newly introduced bill would require Virginia State Police to be available at gun shows to conduct the checks if a private seller wants one. The gun control debate was renewed and measures have been the topic for lawmakers since the December shooting at a Connecticut elementary school. Fifth District representative Robert Hurt says Congress needs to address the root of the problem while also protecting Second Amendment rights. The Courts of Justice Committee is scheduled to consider the so-called “gun show loophole” issue this afternoon.
