An investigation is underway on what may have caused the elevators to malfunction at the Allied Arts Building Tuesday afternoon. Two people were stuck in separate elevators when they stopped; neither sustained injuries. Firefighters reported a burning smell from inside the building, but did not detect any fire. The Battalion Chief with the Lynchburg Fire Department said the smell most likely came from the malfunctioning elevators. He could not comment on what caused the elevators to stop. The Allied Arts Building was built from 1929 to 1931.
