Funding Needed For Resource Officers To Cover All Bedford County Schools

The Bedford County Sheriffs Office is hoping to have sworn deputies in all county schools. On Monday, a request was made to the Board of Supervisors for funding to secure 16 school resource officers to staff the elementary schools and the Bedford Science and Technology Center. Officers are posted in the county’s three high and two middle schools. The Bedford Police Department has funded an officer at Bedford Middle School but will no longer do so when the city of Bedford reverts to a town in July. The county will be responsible for picking up the middle school officer, and funding is included in the proposed budget to cover it.
