Railroad travel will take a trip back in time this weekend, with vintage trains traveling the rail-lines locally. The Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum is offering a limited excursion through Central Virginia on Saturday and Sunday. The historic steam locomotives will operate with diesel assistance over Norfolk Southern’s Virginia Division main line. The train departs in Roanoke; passengers will remain on the train for the entire 100-mile round trip, which includes passage over the Blue Ridge Summit, through Lynchburg and near Walton. The slower paced atmosphere of the vintage rail weekend is part of the Norfolk Southern 21st Century Steam Program.
