<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: #1f497d;">The National Civil War Chaplains Museum is pleased to announce a very special screening of Ron Maxwells latest Civil War epic,<i> Copperhead, </i>on Tuesday, June 4 at 7:00 PM at the Cinemark Movies 10 in the Candlers Station Shopping Center in Lynchburg, VA.  Mr. Maxwell is the director of the well-known Civil War classics <i>Gettysburg</i> and <i>Gods and Generals</i>.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">As part of Bike Month and the Clean Commute Challenge, there are a number of special activities planned for Friday, May 17<sup>th</sup> – National Bike to Work Day.    A number of special activities are arranged for this day to make commuting by an alternative transportation means an easy option.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0pt;"><i><span style="font-size: 10pt;"> </span></i></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0pt;"><i><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">MORNING COMMUTE CONVOY – NATIONAL BIKE TO WORK DAY</span></span></i><i><span style="font-size: 10pt;"><br />
</span></i><span style="font-size: 10pt;">When:  Friday, May 17, Convoy departs at 7:30 am<br />
Where: Riverside Park; Rivermont Avenue, Lynchurg<br />
What: A guided bicycle convoy and ride to work to celebrate National Bike to Work Day! Walkers/runners are welcomed and encouraged to create a walking or running convoy.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Convoy riders should arrive at Riverside Park by 7:15 am and will depart by 7:30 am for a fun, healthy work commute to the Lynchburg Downtown area at Depot Grill.   Convoy groups will be led by experienced cyclists and will have two riding options:<br />
1)  An all road route along Rivermont Avenue; or<br />
2)  A mostly trail ride along JRHT/Blackwater Bikeway; a small amount of on-road riding.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin-bottom: 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">All riders will be asked to sign-up with a ride leader.  There are no return group rides.  However, anyone that would like to ride home with others can meet at Rivermont Festival Park, Jefferson Street, at 4:45 with a 5:00 pm departure.  Riders can also ride on </span><a title="blocked::http://www.gltconline.com/<br />

<p>The Lynchburg, Virginia regional area is anticipating another dynamic line-up of speakers for the Region 2000 Technology Council&#8217;s half day conference TechEDGE 2013 on May 23 in downtown. TechEDGE continues to gain momentum as the premiere business, education and technology conference for the area. <p class="MsoNormal">Miriam&#8217;s House will host its 14<sup>th</sup> Annual Luncheon, ‘Bridge to a Brighter Future’, at Lynchburg College’s Burton Student Center on May 22, 2013 at noon. The cost is $35 per person and all proceeds go to support Miriam&#8217;s House’s mission to end homelessness and empower previously homeless women and their children.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The event will feature the Elizabeth Forsyth Community Service Award being presented to former mayor, Joan Foster, a raffle of appealing items, a delicious lunch and an inspirational program including the personal story of a current Miriam&#8217;s House resident.<a name="_GoBack"></a></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Miriam&#8217;s House is a local nonprofit organization providing transitional housing to homeless women and their children in Central Virginia.</p>

Project Combine is a mentoring &amp; research program that <b>COMBINES</b> evidence based mentoring using the AIM (Aftercare for Indiana through Mentoring) model and the A-CRA (Adolescent Community Reinforcement) model of substance abuse treatment. The goal of integrating these approaches is to ensure that youth struggling with substance abuse and involved in juvenile court are not only being treated, but are also establishing strong positive relationships and engaging in pro-social activities when out in the community. This balanced approach is proven to have the best possible outcome which sets program participants on the road to recovery. </span></p>

<p>RUSTBURG, VA – As part of their community outreach efforts, Campbell County Youth, Adult and Community Services is requesting donations of emergency preparedness supplies to benefit Campbell County citizens in order to assist their needs in times of crisis.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The Emergency Preparedness Drive is scheduled to begin Monday, April 1 and is on-going throughout the entire month of April.  Items may be delivered to the Youth, Adult and Community Services building located at 34 Rails End Lane in Rustburg, VA between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Any items not used to make kits for Campbell County residents will be donated to the American Red Cross.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Types of canned/non-perishable food items to be considered include:</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>

<li><i>Flashlights</i></li>
<li><i>Pill-case containers</i></li>
<li><i>Plastic and cloth band-aids</i></li>
<li><i>Neosporin</i></li>
<li><i>First-aid kits</i></li>
<li><i>Batteries</i></li>
<li><i>Blankets</i></li>
</ul>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>United Way will be holding their 20<sup>th</sup> annual Day of Caring on May 22, 2012.   Every business, organization, group and individual in Central Virginia is invited to donate their skills, labor, time and talents to fulfilling projects submitted by area non-profits.   Project sign-ups will be open from April 10<sup>th </sup>– May 10th, and can be accessed by going to <a href="http://www.one-for-another.org">www.one-for-another.org</a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Projects can range from landscaping to painting to window- washing to cleaning and much more.  Lunch is provided for participants at the Hillcats’ Stadium.  T-shirts available for purchase ($5) once a project is chosen and a team registered.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The Matching Breakfast, where non-profit organizations meet their team of volunteers, will be held on Monday, April 29<sup>th</sup> at Phase 2.  More information will be provided to those who register for a project.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
