Population Growing In the Hill City

Lynchburg is a leader, when it comes to community growth in Central Virginia. According to Virginia population estimates released last month, the Hill City has the largest population of area localities the since 2010 Census. The annual estimates are based on changes in housing stock, school enrollment, births, deaths and drivers’ license issuances and are used by governments for budgeting and planning purposes. There are several contributing factors of the city’s growth, according to the City Manager; including area colleges and ongoing construction connected to downtown revitalization. City Council approved an updated comprehensive plan in January and officials say the city is setting sights on a zoning ordinance overhaul in order to accommodate growth. Sources say Bedford’s transition from a city to a town last year edged Bedford County’s population up. Appomattox and Campbell Counties both saw modest growth–while Amherst and Nelson counties saw relatively flat growth rates.
