Rabies alerts issued for Pittsylvania County

GRETNA, Va. (AP) _ Residents are being advised to avoid wild animals after two rabies cases were discovered in Pittsylvania County.  The Danville Register & Bee reports that the Virginia Department of Health issued rabies alerts following the animals’ discovery last week.  A rabid raccoon was found in Gretna and a rabid skunk was found in Callands.  The health department says it’s possible both animals made contact with neighborhood animals.  Residents are advised to avoid contact with any wild animal and to report any abnormal behavior.
