Tea Partys says no news media or recording devices at meetingThe Lynchburg Tea Party says no news media or recording devices will be allowed at its August 5th meeting with guest speakers State Senator Robert Hurt and Congressman Bob Goodlatte. Tea party chair Mark Lloyd says the group's members did not want the media to be present because it would create a "circus" atmosphere. Lloyd says the meeting will be a more personal, one-on-one setting without lights and microphones. The meeting will be limited to Lynchburg Tea Party members and regular participants who have shown up for most meetings.
Appomattox Co investigators identify body foundAppomattox County investigators have identified the body found Wednesday evening off Aimee Lane. The Sheriff's Office says 46-year-old Charley Alonza Lewis, Junior disappeared more than two weeks ago. Right now the Sheriff's Office is considering the death as a suicide, but the investigation is ongoing.
Rocky Mount community turns out for fallen firefightersMembers of the Rocky Mount community turned out Thursday to honor two veteran firefighters killed in the line of duty. A viewing was held for Chief Posey Dillon and fireman Danny Altice who lost their lives when their fire truck was involved in an accident on Monday. Funerals for both men will be held in Rocky Mount today.
Officials remind parents of immunizationWith school starting less than a month from now, parents are being reminded to make sure their kids have the proper immunizations. This year, kindergartners must have a second chicken pox shot and sixth graders will not be allowed to start school without a TDAP booster. Parents should either contact their pediatrician or the health department, which offers free back to school immunizations.
Governor planning to go on town hall tourGov. Bob McDonnell is planning to speak with Virginians at a series of town hall meetings. McDonnell's office says the eight-stop tour starts next Wednesday in Roanoke and runs through the end of August. McDonnell's office says he's planning to talk about issues facing the state, including his push to privatize the state's liquor stores.
Appomattox Co officials investigating a body found WednesdayThe Appomattox County Sheriff's Office is investigating the discovery of a body on Wednesday afternoon. The body was found off of Aimee Lane around 4 p.m., but authorities have no information on the person's identity. The body has been sent to the Medical Examiner's Office in Roanoke for a determination on the cause and manner of death. Right now, there is no word on whether foul play was involved.
Elderly victim refuses to testify against 28-year old girlfriendThe 77-year-old victim of a beating won't testify against his girlfriend, who is charged with aggravated malicious wounding in Bedford County. Prosecutors say 28-year-old Kristina Pongracz attacked William Herchenrider early in May. The elderly man remains hospitalized, according to the "Lynchburg News and Advance." A preliminary hearing is set for October 5th.
Prince William Co Official not shaken by Arizona rulingA tough blow to Arizona's immigration law won't keep Prince William County Board Chair Corey Stewart from pushing for immigration reform in Virginia. A federal judge on Wednesday blocked key parts of the controversial crackdown in Arizona. Stewart says the judge's decision will make him push even harder, and he plans to unveil his "model legislation" this afternoon. Stewart grabbed national attention when he led the illegal immigration crackdown in Prince William County. The policy was later watered down to prevent claims of racial profiling.
