Much of Va spared wrath of weekend storm
Southwestern and central Virginia were spared the wrath of the weekend storm. The National Weather Service in Blacksburg reported total snowfall at well under earlier predictions. Some of the higher numbers include 15-inches at Stewartsville. Lynchburg got just over six inches. Nelson County had expected 20-inches of snow, but reported just over 13 near the town of Elma. NWS Meteorologist Dennis Sleighter says warmer air lower in the atmosphere kept the numbers down in the region, despite freezing ground temperatures. Sleighter says that warmer air never made it to the DC area which got more than two feet of snow.
