Altavista Town Council has delayed a decision requesting a water tank from Campbell County until getting more details regarding the viability of refurbishing the 300,000-gallon elevated tank. The tank was built in 1991, the county has since decided it no longer has use for it; Altavista officials had hoped to acquire it as a possible backup water storage resource for Abbott Nutrition. Altavista has already expressed some interest and last week according to media outlets, the Board of Supervisors voted to give the tank to the town, but without money the county had originally estimated to reconfigure piping and expenses of taking the tank down. The Public Works/Utility Committee will make recommendations in February. The County set March 15 as a deadline; a public hearing would be held before a transaction is approved.
