The Altavista Planning Commission, next month will begin a process of developing architectural design guidelines for the downtown revitalization overlay district. The commission has several options; and a decision will still need to be made regarding making guidelines part of an ordinance. The Planning Commission will come up with recommendations on guidelines, hold a public hearing, vote and send a report to Altavista Town Council, which will also get public input before voting. Last week, council indicated it wanted the commission to continue the process. The process is expected to take several months. The first open discussion on the plan will be held on Tuesday, December 2.
