Town of AppomattoxAnother historical site is now open to learn more about the American Civil War. The 47-acres is the location of the Battle of Appomattox Station, which took place on April 8, 1865 that battle lead to Gen. Robert E. Lee’s surrender of the Army of Northern Virginia to Gen. Ulysses S. Grant the following day. The Civil War Trust raised $65,000 and used grants to buy the property land that stretches from behind the Carver Price Cultural Center and Fred’s Car Museum. Signs will be erected at the site in time for the 150th Civil War anniversary that will takes place in April.
