fruitDespite a harsh winter and spring frosts, Amherst and Nelson counties’ orchards say there will eventually be plenty of fruits available for picking this summer. Although some fruits will ripen a little later than usual, cherries, blueberries, blackberries, peaches, plums, nectarines and cantaloupes are expected to be abundant across the region. Farmers say the weather did shift things later than normal; and crops such as apples, that normally come in late June to early July will be later due to the cooler spring.
