A funding agreement between the Amherst County Board of Supervisors and the Chamber of Commerce is the first step in a possible tourism partnership. In December, the chamber expressed the desire to take “a leadership role” in promoting tourism in the county. Sources say tourism-related activities that would be compliant with state code include advertising and having a staffed visitor center. The County Administrator has recommended that the board use leftover funds from the county’s current tourism expenditures to fund the chamber’s request. The chamber also wishes to occupy the Train Depot.
