The transformation of the former Amherst County Jail is undergoing its finishing touches. The building, which once housed more than 100 inmates, has been repurposed. Once construction is completed, it will serve as additional office space to the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office… in addition to providing emergency shelter needs for the county’s residents. The $2.5 million project is expected to be completed at the end of the month; and will likely serve the law enforcement needs for the next 40 or 50 years.
