From Virginia State Police: On Oct. 30, 2016, at approximately 1 a.m., Virginia State Police Trooper T.Z. Beams initiated a traffic stop on a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban for speeding on Clark Road in Campbell County. The SUV refused to stop, sped away from the trooper, and a pursuit was initiated. The SUV continued through the Evington area and eventually ended up on Route 460. As the SUV made a right turn from Route 460 onto Turkey Foot Road in Campbell County, the trooper maneuvered his vehicle to make contact with the SUV to bring it to a stop and end the pursuit. The result caused the SUV to run off the side of Route 460 and strike an embankment. The driver then fled on foot. The SUV’s driver, Dwayne J. Gibson Jr., 29, of Madison Heights, Va., was apprehended a short time later with the assistance of the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office and Bedford County Sheriff’s Office. Gibson was taken into custody without further incident. Gibson was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained in the crash.
