amherst county logoAn Amherst County man fled from police Monday morning, following a high speed chase; and a collision with a tractor-trailer. State police say the pursuit began at about 8:38 a.m. when a trooper, traveling northbound on Rt. 29 in Amherst County, attempted to pull over a car that passed him going more than 80 mph. The 27-year-old fled into Nelson County, then reversed course and headed south in Amherst County. Authorities say the suspect reached speeds of more than 100 mph before he lost control, struck a guardrail, spun out and collided with a northbound tractor-trailer. Sources say the driver then tried to flee on foot, but officers managed to catch him. He was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital with a minor injury. The tractor-trailer driver was uninjured. Charges are pending.
