An estimated 1.6 million people visit the area per year…on Monday, The Appomattox Town Council reviewed promising results from a study that looked at whether the locality could support a national tourism plan. According to the News & Advance, when presented as a region, the study showed Appomattox is attractive to national developers due to the area’s natural, historical and recreational resources. The consulting firm responsible for the study, which began in April, will create a final presentation of the results. The next step for town officials will be to establish a hospitality market and develop ways to attract national developers’ attention. Experts suggested town council and the economic development authority work together to highlight sites that meet the criteria that supports national tourism retail and hospitality developers, such as hotels, restaurants and outlet malls.
