Supervisors on Monday learned that Bedford County’s landfill will likely reach capacity in 2018. According to the County Administrator’s office, a decision on the landfill and the solid waste fund will need to be made in the next six months; with efforts to expand within the next 12 months due to the time required for permitting. The board discussed solutions such as cuts in other parts of the county’s operations and possibly increasing taxes. According to the News & Advance, an estimated $8 million is needed to fully fund the effort, which includes closing one cell and opening another.
