NelsonCountyThe Nelson County Board of Supervisors, last week, voted to increase two tax rates in the coming fiscal year. The new rates for real property and personal property taxes are effective retroactively as of Jan. 1, with the first billing due June 5. The News & Advance reports, altogether, the changes in tax rates along with the decrease in property values were estimated to generate a net in-crease of roughly $211,000 in county revenue for this fiscal year. According to the article, setting the property tax rates is a prerequisite to the board being able to work through the county’s budget; once a final draft is complete, a public hearing will be held.
