From the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office: On January 24, 2016 at 10:15 pm, Campbell County deputies responded to 6559 Richmond Highway, Lynchburg, VA, regarding a subject having a gunshot wound. Upon arriving on the scene, deputies found Douglas Wayne Grubbs, Jr., 27 years of age, deceased, and the victim of a single gunshot wound. Information gathered at the scene led to the arrest of Franklin Lee Thomason, Jr., 37 years of age, of 6559 Richmond Highway, Lynchburg, VA. Thomason was already wanted on an unrelated charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle stemming from an incident in Campbell County. Thomason was taken into custody and also charged with 2nd degree murder regarding the death of Grubbs, Jr. Additional changes pending further investigation.
