
From Campbell County: On Friday, October 21 at approximately 12:55 p.m. volunteer fire departments (including Rustburg, Lyn-Dan Heights, Evington and Concord) and Campbell County Department of Public Safety staff responded to a structure fire at 346 Village Highway, Rustburg; the building was commonly known to local residents as the “Old Mill.” The structure was classified as a total loss by the Campbell County Fire Marshal, Randall Johnson. No occupants were in the building at the time of the fire; no injuries were reported. Johnson indicated the cause is still undetermined, but the fire is being treated as accidental. “Local firefighters’ swift response contained the blaze, minimizing risk to the public and surrounding buildings,” said Johnson. “It took fire teams approximately 5 hours to clear the scene. Due to the location of the fire and its proximity to Route 501, traffic flow was temporarily impacted.
