Here is the news release from Lynchburg Parks and Recreation:

Lynchburg Parks & Recreation is excited to announce the return of the annual Celebration of Lights event located in Riverside Park! Celebration of Lights is a drive through light display, open nightly in December, from 5:00pm–9:00pm. The event is FREE to the public.

There will be three special event nights during the month of December to help ring in the holidays. On December 3, pedestrians are invited to walk through the park, enjoy the ambiance, and take pictures among the lights. Vintage carolers, ice carving, and Batter Bar food truck will be on site. Horse drawn carriages rides, from Lexington Carriage Company, will be offered on December 10 and 11 and will give participants the chance to sit back relax, and embrace the holiday magic. Rides are $6.00 per person; ages 2 and under are free.

This year, a new display is making its debut in the park: a life-size Santa’s sleigh! Community members are encouraged to take pictures in the sleigh and hashtag #LynchburgParksandRec. Additionally, a mailbox will be located in Riverside Park, near the playground, for children to drop off their letters to Santa!

The park will be closed to cars on December 3, 10, and 11 for the special event nights. For more information on the event, special event nights, or carriage ride registrations, please click here.

Lynchburg Parks and Recreation is excited to safely bring people together to celebrate the holidays! Covid-19 mandates will be followed including social distancing and sanitization.
