Centra Health is canceling some elective procedures because of a global shortage of intravenous contrast dye. It’s used in procedures such as enhanced X-rays, CT scans and heart catheterizations. Centra officials say much of the nation’s supply comes from China where COVID lockdowns are underway. Centra has postponed elective imaging procedures in order to conserve its supplies of I-V contrast. It’s notifying affected patients to reschedule. The IV contrast shortage is expected to last through July.
