Centra’s new emergency and community access is looking to lower emergency room visits by improving access to health care services for the underinsured. Sources say, the Lynchburg Fire Department has been implementing a similar initiative for about two years. The Multi-Disciplinary Response Team is comprised of ten members from different government and social services departments. Centra is now working with MDRT to created their own Critical Access team; and will be hiring two Care Navigators to work with the most frequent ER visitors. Media outlets report, Centra will also send a mobile medical van around to communities.
