Region 2000 has announced restructuring plans which includes, in large part, a combination of missions. Under the new model, the partnership will transition from six member organizations to four; the new structure will combine staff support for economic development and technology initiatives. The Center for Advanced Engineering and Research is slated to break off from partner organizations within the next five years. Similar restructuring efforts have occurred in other organizations in recent years; administrators say a fundraising gap forced Region 2000 to look at ways to operate more cost-effectively. Virginia’s Region 2000 Partnership has provided development leadership, planning services, economic development, marketing, and workforce training on a regional basis.
