The City of Lynchburg will hold a public meeting to discuss the upcoming renovations to the parking deck at the Lynchburg Community Market and to provide information regarding a pilot on-street metered parking program in downtown. The parking deck has deteriorated and the weight limit has been posted as three tons. To help enforce the lower limits, a new entrance will be built off of Main Street to separate heavier truck traffic from lighter automobile traffic. When it comes to the on-street metered parking, officials say the current one hour and two hour time limit parking sings in the Community Market and Main Street areas are not creating the vehicle turn over that is needed for retailers and merchants in the area. The program would implement meter pay stations similar to what is already in place on the Midtown Parking Deck and in the parking lot on the corner of Main and Commerce Streets. The meeting is at the Lynchburg Community Market on Main Street at 6:30 p.m. on February 5th.
