Smith Mountain Lake’s Tri-County Lake Administrative Commission has approved a new cooperative proposal incorporating another county going from three to four and would include Bedford, Campbell, Franklin and Pittsylvania. According to the Smith Mountain Eagle, adding Campbell County would grant TLAC oversight over issues relating to Leesville Lake. The next step is to submit the proposal to each of the four counties for approval. A preliminary agreement, if approved, will run for an initial 24 months. The aim is to get it approved as soon as possible by the counties to have it operating by July 1, 2014. The Leesville Lake Association’s position, as a participating member, is that an administrative commission fosters the development and care of resources. With the Leesville lake area added, there is debate over a possible name change.
