Appomattox County School officials have been debating calendar option and a decision could be reached soon on the issue. The favorable scenario is for the first semester ending before winter break. A recent survey of division staff looked at three choices: one that would begin after Labor Day, one that would begin Aug. 20, and one that would begin Aug. 11. According to the News & Advance, the Aug. 11 option has been the most popular option because the current calendar necessitates some students take Standards of Learning tests soon after returning from winter break. School administrators plan to survey parents next.
