Officials have postponed a vote on an application from AT&T for a communication tower to be installed in the Afton area of Nelson County. The applicant is seeking an exception to the Nelson County Zoning Ordinance requirement that no tower be located within 1 air mile of a designated Virginia Scenic Byway. The ordinance was written to restrict the location of communication towers that adversely detract from the natural beauty, minimize the negative economic impact on tourism and to protect scenic highways. The planning commission, requested more information holding off on the vote on the application until the Jan. 22 meeting. The board of supervisors ultimately, will have the final say on the matter.
