City officials will hold a work session this afternoon to discuss the issue of non-emergency ambulance transports. Centra Health currently answers many calls but is only certified to transport people between Centra facilities. The health system is requested to expand the territory citywide and become the city’s exclusive provider of non-emergency ambulance trips. The Lynchburg Fire Department has been working to reduce its non-emergency caseload in order to focus on the steadily increasing demand for emergency response. City Council is expected to decide today whether to pursue the matter further.
