City officials are considering a request made by Liberty University to rebuild a vehicular bridge in order to reestablishing the school’s right to use the road through Riverside Park to access Treasure Island. LU plans to eventually restore the island as a recreation destination. The road proposal will be presented for Lynchburg City Council’s consideration during a work session today. The News & Advance reports, if the city grants the request, Liberty will offer to pave the road and pay for its maintenance indefinitely. According to the article, if council elects to move forward with the public street designation, a hearing will be set to take public comments on the matter at a later date.
