An old tombstone at a grave in the old Presbyterian cemetery on Grace Street was straightened on Monday. It is the final resting place of Sarah Carroll; the first wife of the founder of “Lone Jack” tobacco, John W. Carroll–she lived from 1834 to 1877. A small crowd came out to watch a crane hoist the 136-year-old stone back up on to its base. Once the stone was upright and crews put down concrete to keep the gravestone up straight. In the past two decades, the cemetery grounds crew has repositioned between 50 to 60 headstones and monuments on their original foundations.
