Clean up efforts continue at the CSX crash site in downtown Lynchburg; but officials have announced that there will be limited access to the rail crossings at Winchester and Washington Streets; and the crossing at Garnet Street will be closed through Friday evening, May 9.

The cleanup process following the recent train derailment is ongoing along the tracks near the James River in Downtown Lynchburg. The Virginia Department of Health has not lifted the advisory against recreational use of the river between Lynchburg and Richmond, specifically for swimming, kayaking and other paddle activities because of the danger of accidentally ingesting water containing crude oil.
