Divisions of Fire and Rescue services in Franklin and Bedford County respond to high numbers of falling victims, particularly among senior citizens. The Smith Mountain Eagle reports from January to June 2014, reported falls in Bedford County resulted in 10% of the calls for dispatch of emergency services. In Franklin County, it amounts to the same percentage, representing 360 falls for the first part of 2014. EMS officials in both counties acknowledge that many of the calls come from senior citizens; but say not all falling cases come from the elderly.
