Farmers seeking emergency assistance will have additional time to enroll in a specifically designed program. The original deadline was last Friday, but has been extended until August 15. The program was authorized by the 2014 Farm Bill; it is provided through the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The program applies to producers of livestock, honeybees and farm-raised fish that have losses due to disease, adverse weather, wildfires or colony collapse disorder between Oct. 1, 2011 and Sept. 30, 2013. Visit the agency’s website at www.fsa.usda.gov for additional information.
