Data released by the Transportation Security Administration shows the Lynchburg Regional Airport isn’t following a nationwide trend of increased confiscations of firearms at airports. American airports saw a 20 percent spike in guns found inside carry-on bags, but in Lynchburg, the airport security seized two loaded firearms last year. The previous year, the TSA did not report any confiscating firearms at the Lynchburg airport. All of Virginia’s airports reported incidents of confiscated firearms in the single digits. According to the report, The Roanoke Regional Airport found one loaded pistol in a carry-on bag. The Norfolk airport seized the most firearms in the commonwealth with seven loaded handguns in 2013.
