The Academy of Fine Arts’ campaign is two steps closer to restoring the Academy of Music Theatre –thanks to a pair of anonymous donations. A contribution for $100,000 was received as 2013 came to an end and a second gift for another $100,000 came in last week. The theater opened in 1905, it was eventually turned into a movie theater but shut down in 1958. In 2003, the Academy of Music and the Fine Arts Center merged and the efforts to restore the facility began. The project is expected to cost $29 million. Administrators say improvements to the façade could begin as early as this spring.
