Town of AppomattoxAPPOMATTOX, Va. (AP) _ The town of Appomattox has hired a contractor to help it with a big, historic April event: Gen. Robert E. Lee’s surrender to Gen. Ulysses S. Grant. More than 1,000 re-enactors are expected to crowd into Appomattox for one of the final acts of the sesquicentennial of the Civil War. Lynchburg’s Quarterdeck was hired for $35,000 to assist in the town’s planning. Quarterdeck will help capitalize on the five days of events expected to draw thousands of people to the area. It will also help with marketing and communications. The firm, for instance, will reach out to the re-enactors to inform them of stores and restaurants, as well as other activities. It also will provide an informational video about the town.
