But drivers starting out on their holiday journey in the Lynchburg area will find some gas prices below $3, although the national average has crept upward in recent days after a lengthy streak of decline. According to AAA mid-Atlantic, the average price in the Lynchburg area was $3.06. Media outlets report it is lower than the daily averages for the country and the state. 1.2 million Virginians will travel 50 miles or more from home during the holiday travel period which officially begins next Wednesday, Nov. 27 and runs through Sunday, Dec. 1.
