Former School Building Fire Ruled Suspicious

Officials in Amherst County have ruled a fire at a dilapidated school in Madison Heights as arson. The small fire at the former Phelps Road School was reported to the county’s 911 dispatch center just before 7pm.on Saturday evening. Investigators say Arson was determined to be the cause of the fire because the building has no electricity and has been unoccupied for more than two decades. Sources say the fire was fueled by old wood from the school itself.
