The former Amherst County treasurer will spend one year in jail for embezzling county funds. 60 year old, Evelyn Martin admitted in court Tuesday to taking cash and entering transactions as credit card payments to conceal missing money. Martin worked 37 years in the county treasurer’s office, and served as treasurer in 2010 and 2011; she was charged last year with money laundering and embezzling public funds. According to media outlets, the judge sentenced Martin to 15 years but suspended all but one year; she was also ordered to pay back the over 32-thousand dollars; and will remain on probation until restitution is made.
