City of LynchburgA free service that helps the low- and moderate-income residents get through tax season is underway. The program is manned entirely by local volunteers who’ve been trained and certified as tax preparers; and is an initiative that is supported by the IRS. Last year, more than 2,700 people were served in the nine-county district that includes Lynchburg and Bedford and Campbell counties. This year, taxpayers will be dealing with the health insurance mandate created under the Affordable Care Act. Volunteer training began in November the service runs from Feb. 1 through April 15.
