Altavista officials are mapping out guidelines for public transportation system. The town council last night worked with a representative of a consulting group hired to assist in the development of the localities first transit plan. The Altavista Community Transit System began in 2011; According to the expert, compared to other transit systems, ACTS is doing just as well if not better than those of similar sizes across the region. The consultant suggested the town partner with area businesses and localities to improve funding sources, which would allow them to offer more services. Offering routes to other places such as Lynchburg, Rustburg and Lynch Station is a long term goal. The plan is required by Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation, Council is expected to vote on the plan at the Dec. 10 meeting.
