Lynchburg Area Food Council will be awarding over 10-thousand dollars in grant money to groups interested in starting a community garden. The money will help applicants purchase garden materials or plants. There are regulations requirement to be met in order to qualify. A focus on properties in identified food deserts will receive higher preference by the Programs Committee. Other initiatives such as school learning gardens or senior living demonstration gardens may be considered. Grant winners must attend a free two-day workshop in March.
