The competition phase of a major utility line replacement project will move forward –meaning, the James River Interceptor will be completed; thanks, in large part, to a portion of a $30 million grant the city received from the General Assembly this year. The News & Advance reports the money was earmarked to help the city finish its combined sewer overflow program, the replacement and expansion of the city’s largest sewer line and comes when the sewer fund is reaching debt capacity. The James River Interceptor project is the first use of the state money. The project, set to begin in late January, will complete the replacement and expansion of the city’s largest sewer line– Work is expected to take one year to complete. Riverfront Park will be closed during this time.
