Hunters for the Hungry will receive a $50,000 grant today. The financial gift from the Walmart Foundation will cover some of the expense of processing this season. The Big Island-based nonprofit founded in 1991 provides free venison to hungry families across the state. This year, Hunters for the Hungry looks to provide 370,000 pounds of meat. This money will cover the expense for more than 1,000 deer and nearly 55,000 pounds of the meat which will be donated to area food banks.
