Tis’ the season for a very lush, green and fragrant Christmas tree…It has been a very good year according to the Virginia Christmas Tree Growers Association; this year’s crop will have more sap in the trees; thanks to an abnormally wet summer we had. According to the Nelson County Times, the saturated summer also has rendered more vibrant varieties of Douglas and Fraser firs– and Scotch, Virginia and white pines. Virginia is ranked among the top 10 states in the country based on the number of trees sold. The state brings in between 20- and 40-million dollars annually with the sale of an estimated 1 to 2 million trees.
