town of bedfordOfficials say Bedford’s electricity bill, has increased eight times the normal amount. The increases accumulated during January’s below freezing temperatures. According to the town manager, Bedford purchases electricity in bulk from suppliers that transmit over the PJM system. While the town has a contract to stabilize its energy cost, its transmission rates fluctuate. The Public Services Director tells media outlets that the rates are determined by a complicated computer program and change constantly. Bedford Town Council plans to contact elected state and federal officials requesting an investigation into the increase in transmission costs, before having to pass the charge on to electricity customers.
