This year’s point-in-time survey was conducted by volunteers yesterday. Designed to determine the number of homeless individuals living in the Lynchburg area, the survey is part of a nationwide effort required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The count is used to determine HUD funding for homelessness intervention and prevention services. The region includes the City of Lynchburg, Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford and Campbell counties. This year’s numbers have not been tally yet; last year, the count found 150 individuals and 97 families classified as homeless in the Lynchburg region.
